GUIDING THE A&M SYSTEM FORWARD

The Office of the Chancellor provides the leadership and direction that guides The Texas A&M University System toward a shared vision for Texas. Working across the A&M System, the office helps set priorities, uphold accountability, and ensure its collective strengths are working together to serve students, communities, and the state.

More than a single office or individual, the Office of the Chancellor is a connecting force across the A&M System. It brings together people, institutions, and ideas to turn the A&M System’s mission into action while upholding the values and purpose that unite its members.

At the center of that work is Chancellor Glenn Hegar, former Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Known for his hands-on leadership and commitment to public service, Hegar is focused on unlocking the full potential of the A&M System to prepare the next generation of Texas leaders.

ABOUT CHANCELLOR GLENN HEGAR

Glenn Hegar grew up on a farm in Hockley, just outside Houston. He began college at a local community college so he could continue helping on the farm before transferring to Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in political science in 1993. Those early years taught him the value of hard work and helped shape his commitment to honesty, integrity, and service.

Hegar went on to earn a law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he met his wife, Dara ’95. He also earned a Master of Laws from the University of Arkansas.

Hegar built his career serving the people of Texas. He served in the Texas Legislature as a state representative and state senator before becoming Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. In that role, he managed billions in taxpayer funds and led one of the state’s largest agencies.

Now, as chancellor, Hegar brings that experience to a new mission: bringing together the full strength of the A&M System to expand opportunity, serve Texas, and prepare the next generation of leaders.

Hegar and Dara have three children: Claire, Julia, and Jonah.
