SACSCOC Accreditation Information

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is responsible for accrediting degree-granting higher education institutions in Southern states. It acts as a unifying body for various institutions across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Latin America, and some other international sites sanctioned by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees. These institutions confer associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees. Moreover, the Commission also considers membership applications from institutions within the other 39 states and international higher education institutions worldwide.

To acquire or uphold accreditation from the Commission on Colleges, an institution must adhere to the standards outlined in the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement and follow the Commission’s policies and procedures. The Principles are applied to all institutions—applicant, candidate, or member—regardless of their nature (public, private for-profit, or private not-for-profit).
