Prairie View A&M University is the second-oldest public institution of higher education in Texas. Offering baccalaureate degrees in 50 academic majors, 41 master’s degrees and four doctoral degrees, this historically black university has an established reputation for producing engineers, nurses and educators. The university is located about 40 miles northwest of Houston in Waller County.

- Prairie View A&M University houses the only Crime Prevention Center in Texas.
- PVAMU was the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) selected
to establish both an Army and Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Program. - In 2006, PVAMU’s College of Business earned a special accreditation for its bachelor's and master's degree programs in business administration by the recommendation of the Board of Directors of The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.
- PVAMU was recently named to InfoWorld Magazine's “Top 100 Most Innovative Corporate IT Solutions” in education.
- The university is home of the nation’s first International Goat Research Center, which houses six breeds of goats and provides valuable goat research to Texas, the United States and to the country of Ethiopia through a partnership known as the Ethiopia Sheep and Goat Productivity Improvement Plan (ESGPIP).
