Texas A&M University, the University of Texas and five other partners have celebrated the casting of the first of seven mirrors for the Giant Magellan Telescope.

A&M-Corpus Christi professor receives $665,000 grant to re-establish coastal elevations
Dr. Gary Jeffress, a professor of computing and mathematical science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, has received a $665,000 grant from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration to start a program to re-establish height elevations in Texas that have deteriorated or disappeared since being put in place more than 50 years ago. This will help researchers predict the effects of a hurricane and will help developers who must rely on topographical maps that are inaccurate.           

TTI navigates research via ship channel
“All eyes are on Texas for transportation,” Mike Behrens, executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation, said at a recent meeting of the Texas Transportation Institute’s advisory council, and TTI is taking a lead role in meeting the state’s transportation needs.    

State climatologist says Texas is in severe drought
Parts of Texas are in the middle of a severe drought and many cities received less than one-half of their normal spring rainfall, according to the National Weather Service and John Nielsen-Gammon, state climatologist and professor of meteorology at Texas A&M University. Many parts of the state received little or no rain during June, adding that some of the most severe drought conditions in the United States exist in Texas.
