Bridges Program Seminar
March 29, 2007
This 1 1/2 hour seminar will cover the NIH Bridges to the Baccalaureate Degree initiative (R25). Robyn Pearson, Research Development Officer with the Office of Proposal Development (OPD) at Texas A&M University, will conduct the seminar. Robyn and her colleagues at OPD were instrumental in the success of a recent Bridges proposal awarded at Texas A&M.
The Bridges Program provides support to institutions to help students make transitions at critical stages in their development as scientists. The program is aimed at helping students make the transition from 2-year junior or community colleges to full 4-year baccalaureate programs. Building upon partnerships between institutions, the program’s goal is to provide a seamless transition for underrepresented students who are interested in careers in biomedical research.
- Partnerships: Each proposed Bridges to the Baccalaureate program must consist of a partnership between at least two institutions. The 2-year college must offer the associate degree as the only undergraduate degree in the sciences and must have a significant enrollment of underrepresented minority students. The other partner must be a college or university offering the baccalaureate degree in areas relevant to the biomedical sciences.
- Due Date: May 18, 2007
- Budget and Project Period: $200,000 in direct costs for a maximum of 5 years
- Eligibility: PI/PD should be full-time faculty with teaching, student counseling, and/or administrative experience and have an interest in promoting biomedical and behavioral science education among students from underrepresented groups and/or health disparities populations.
- Number of Applications: An applicant institution may not submit, or have pending, more than one Bridges to the Baccalaureate application. An institution may be involved as a partner in more than one Bridges program, but may be the APPLICANT institution for only one program.
