NIH Workshop

The workshop provided an overview of NIH opportunities and interests, the funding processes and options for research in the area of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Speakers included:
- Dr. Deborah H. Olster, Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research, provided an overview of NIH Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) opportunities and interests (including the NIH Roadmap)
- Dr. Derrick Tabor, National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) discussed funding opportunities in the NCMHD, including those at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)
- Dr. David Armstrong, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), discussed the review process at the NIMH.
- Dr. Michael Spittel, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, discussed funding options for research, pay lines, how institutes and centers differ, how program officers work with applicants, RFAs vs PAs, PARs, etc.
- Dr. Ming Tai-Seale, a NIH funded researcher with The Texas A&M University System School of Rural Public Health, discussed the NIH application process.
