Dept. of Education Issues Letter re Disclosure of Education
Records to State Educational Authority
The University of California System requested an opinion
from the U.S. Department of Education Family Policy Compliance Office
regarding whether it was permissible under FERPA for it to share
certain education records with the California Postsecondary Education
Commission (equivalent to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board). The opinion found that such sharing with an authorized state
agency was permitted under the act. A PDF
version of the letter opinion is available.
